Bootstrap is a roothide bootstrap tool for ARM64 & ARM64e devices on iOS 15 - 17.0.

Tweak Limitations

Bootstrap is not considered a traditional jailbreak compared to other tools, like Dopamine. The tool utiltizes a coretrust exploit and does not use any other vulnerability.

Bootstrap only supports minimal tweak injection. Tweaks cannot be injected into the SpringBoard, or select daemons. However, it does support archiving tweaks into other applications. Due to this, only a select amount of tweaks are able to be installed onto the device. Applications like Aemulo, will not work, as they add daemons to the system.

Tools, such as Serotonin or NathanLR, are built off of bootstrap & adds additionally compatibility to support tweak injection into daemons or SpringBoard.

Differences compared to traditional jailbreaks

  • Bootstrap only has one exploit, which is the coretrust exploit. Traditional jailbreaks often contain a kernel exploit, PAC/SPTM bypass, PPL bypass and/or a bootrom exploit.
  • Because Bootstrap only uses one exploit, tweaks that can be installed are very selective and minimal. Tweaks that interact with the SpringBoard, or inject tweaks into daemons, will not work. A full-fledged jailbreak supports tweak injection in daemons.
  • Bootlooping or crashes are very common upon users due to incompatiable tweaks, forgetting to enable tweak injection into an app, or un-bootstrapping whilist tweaks are injected into applications. Traditional jailbreaks are designed to prevent crashes, and if so, will boot into safe mode.

Installation

Despite Bootstrap supporting iOS 15 - 17.0, it can only be installed via TrollStore or built on XCode.
