CloudKit is both a framework and a service designed by Apple to allow developers to replace back-end web services like databases, file storage and user authentication systems.
It is used extensively within Apple's own systems, including iCloud Keychain and iMessage.
Database records (one of the primary functions of CloudKit) can have attached assets, which are uploaded to MMCS as backing cloud storage.
