iPod touch (3rd generation)

The iPod touch (3rd generation) was announced on 9 September 2009. It makes internal improvements over the previous generation; adding a faster processor, doubling the RAM, increasing storage capacity, etc. It uses the board configuration N18AP and the name used in firmware is iPod3,1.

Application Processor

It makes use of the S5L8922 application processor. No other known device uses this processor; however, the iPhone 3GS uses the similar S5L8920.

Wireless

The iPod touch (3rd generation) uses the BCM4329 for Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g) and Bluetooth 2.1. The chip includes 802.11n and FM transmit/receive support, but these capabilities have yet to be enabled by Apple or jailbreakers.
