Pangu8 is an untethered jailbreak for all devices on iOS 8.0 through 8.1, except the Apple TV. It was initially released on 22 October 2014 as a SSH version only, because Cydia.app and Cydia Substrate hadn't been updated for iOS 8. Cydia.app was updated later that day for iOS 8 support. Cydia Substrate has since been updated. On 31 October 2014, version 1.1.0 was released to fix the remaining bugs and include Cydia by default. Version 1.2.0 was released on 4 November 2014, to further address bug fixes. On 9 November 2014, 1.0.0 was released for macOS. Pangu8 was patched in iOS 8.1.1 beta and later.

Supported Devices

All devices capable of running iOS 8.0-8.1, except the Apple TV family, are supported.

Name

"Pangu" is the name of the "the first living being and the creator of all in some versions of Chinese mythology".

The 8.0-8.1 untether is nicknamed "Xuan-Yuan Sword", which refers to a powerful weapon in a series of video games based on Chinese mythology.

This follows in the theme of the nickname of Pangu's 7.1-7.1.2 untether, which was "Pangu Axe", the powerful weapon used by the mythological Pangu to separate the earth and the sky.
