Recovery Firmware

The following recovery firmware is downloaded by iTunes when a Samsung SoC-based iPod, iPhone (1st generation), or iPod touch (1st generation) is found in Recovery Mode. Each firmware contains a WTF and DFU image in 8900 format.

With some exceptions, the files are named in the format xAAAABBBB_Recovery.ipsw, where AAAA is the device's WTF mode USB product identifier in hexadecimal. It is unclear where BBBB comes from; in all cases it is 0000, except with the iPod touch (1st generation), where it is 2100. Build versions are those listed in the itunes.com/version file.

iPod shuffle does not appear to use WTF mode, perhaps as the firmware is so small as to not need it. Its firmware filenames instead use the DFU mode USB product identifier.

In later iOS devices, the WTF and DFU images are instead retrieved from the main IPSW for the latest firmware build.
