The USB Serial Number Reader, also known as the SNR Cable is a cable that is used internally by Apple's authorized technicians for reading serial numbers off of dead Ligthinng devices via the Tristar chip. This cable is easily identifiable by its odd shape and double-arrow glyph on the lightning connector, the USB Serial Number Reader is only obtainable by authorized technicians at authorized repair locations. These cables also feature a UART interface, just like DCSD Cables and Kanzi Cables.
Hardware
The hardware and firmware are mostly identical to Kanzi Cables, with the following differences:
- The Kanzi cable has a USB Product ID of "0x1624", in comparison to the SNR's "0x1621"
- The Kanzi cable features an additonal lightning port on its backside, while as the SNR has it covered
- The Kanzi cable features a ARM Cortex Debug 10-pin connector, while as the SNR cable does not have it soldered on.
- The Kanzi cable has artwork of the Kanzi bonobo, while as the SNR has a plain top
