Apple Pencil is a digital stylus pen that works as an input device for certain iPad Pro, iPad, iPad Air, and iPad mini models. It was first announced on 9 September 2015 alongside the iPad Pro, and released in conjunction with it on 11 November 2015. It is superseded by Apple Pencil (2nd generation), while the lower-cost alternative is Apple Pencil (USB-C).
