This is the root directory to which packages are installed to on a jailbroken rootless device using the Procursus distribution. Due to the uppercase boot manifest hash[note 1] string in the path, it is symbolically linked to from /var/jb. This path was chosen because of its ability to execute binaries, not permitted in /var due to sandbox rules, and because the jailbreak can evade detection by temporarily deleting the /var/jb symbolic link.
The filesystem hierarchy below this directory is intended to be the same as the actual filesystem root.

- ^ The boot manifesh hash is a checksum of the Image4 manifest used to sign boot components like the kernelcache on disk. A10 and above devices uses a SHA384 checksum while A7-A9X devices uses a SHA1 checksum.
