MobileMe

From The Apple Wiki
(Redirected from .Mac)

MobileMe (previously iTools and .Mac) was a collection of subscription services provided by Apple for iOS and Mac users to keep their data in sync. It launched on 5 January 2000 (2000-01-05) as iTools, and rebranded to .Mac on 17 July 2002 (2002-07-17). When rebranded as MobileMe at WWDC 2008 together with the iPhone 3G and iPhone OS 2.0, it introduced additional features for iOS devices.

MobileMe received negative critical reviews due to several issues with the service at its launch. In an internal email, Steve Jobs felt it was "not up to Apple's standards". MobileMe was succeeded by iCloud when iOS 5 launched in September 2011 (2011-09). The mac.com and me.com domains are retained for email addresses created when they were the most current branding. All web content has been taken down, including HomePage websites created by .Mac users.
